Richard “Dick” Winzenried: A tribute to the hero who rescued a mother her two young sons.
Richard was a man who loved the challenge of fixing or building anything. Undoubtedly one of his greatest accomplishments was helping to complete our family. Unconditionally, and time after time, he demonstrated love and joy in the role of fatherhood and husband. His sacrifice of taking on this responsibility of adopting two children was a huge gamble, and it paid off for all of us in a connection of love. He was a great role model, and through his example he taught his two sons how to raise their own children. He set the standard of how to be respectful, balanced and loving to his family, friends and our community. He was known in the neighborhood as the go-to fix-it guy, and he always welcomed any challenge or request for help.
We thank God that he came into our lives and became our father and husband. He was a positive influence, and the hardest working man we ever met. He also enjoyed life to the fullest, and we share a lifetime of memories from traveling, camping, scouting, boating, motorcycles and snowmobiles, and his efforts as an amateur veterinarian, to name a few. Thank you, Richard, for everything. Please know that your legacy lives on into the next generation. Your examples of love continue to shape us, and your grandchildren, and one day, their children as well. Finally, your gift of your worldly body for medical research and to help others is the ultimate example of who you are, and what you could do to help others. A man who blessed his family, and a hero for the world.
