Our personal hero and a hero to his country, Edward Emmett Beaty passed away April 29, 2016 at the age of 93. Ed grew up in Ames Iowa and then served as an Air Force pilot during WWII. He flew 30 missions as captain of a B-17 flying fortress and 47 subsequent missions. At the end of the war he was one of 25 officers chosen to return to the United States accompanied by General Eisenhower. Ed retired as a full Colonel and fully retired from General Mills Corporation in 1971. Ed was a devoted father and compassionate husband. He delighted and exasperated his family and friends with endless jokes, poems and limericks, while maintaining his sense of humor until his death. Ed was a skilled and creative carpenter, an avid reader of history and world issues and a frequent entertainer. Above all, he adored his wife Corky and loved dancing with her throughout their 72 years of marriage. We will miss him and are eternally grateful for his love and caring concern for all of us.
